August 6, 2010, Newsletter Issue #237: Silver Markings

Tip of the Week

.925, .800 - These are marks usually found on silver. .925 is Sterling silver (92.5% silver) and .800 is Coin silver. When these are used on a piece that is gold it usually means that the jewelry is vermeil - gold plating over silver. The value of the piece would be worth roughly what it would be for a regular silver piece.
