50 grams boric acid crytals
32 grams sodium phosphate
34 grams powdered borax
1 pint distilled water.
Mix and bring to a boil.
I am a novice jewelry maker and was having trouble soldering onto copper. After trying a few commercial fluxes with no luck and experimenting at home, I was able to get a good bond with a flux made as follows:
- 3 parts borax, found in laundry aisle
- 3 parts boric acid (roach poison powder, 64%)
- 2 parts rubbing alcohol
I've only tried this with copper so far, but it should work on other metals I would think.
